What Is Purple, Pink, and Red All Over?

You guessed it!  Dean College!

I don't think I've ever been prouder to be a bulldog than I was this week.  First came purple: in honor of those who have recently committed suicide because of bullying over their sexual orientation or by being outed, GSA (Gay Straight Alliance) asked everyone on campus to join the national movement and wear purple.  The response was amazing: most of the campus donned their purple, in shades from eggplant to violet, and showed support.

Then came red: this time, the event was organized by RHA (Residence Hall Association).  RHA hosted a blood drive here on campus and as ever, it was a smashing success.  Not only was every single appointment slot filled all day long, there were dozens of walk-in donations as well.  RHA members checked people in, sat with them while they recuperated, and made sure yummy snacks (and gift cards to subway!) were always plentiful.  If you'd like to hear more about what RHA does on campus, the president of the club has a blog of her own!  You can read it here.  As a member of RHA, it was awesome to see the club in action, making a difference on campus.  As a student, it was great to see so many of my fellow students make sacrifices for others, and as a donor, it was amazing to have the chance to take part in something I believe in, right on my own campus!

Finally, it was time to THiNK PiNK.  THiNK PiNK is a national campaign to raise awareness about breast cancer and breast cancer research.  Sisterhood, (another club on campus) has brought THiNK PiNK to  Dean College for the second year in a row.  We (yes, me too!  In fact I am on the Executive Board for Sisterhood) had a table set up in the Campus Center with pink ribbons, pink fondue, pamphlets with breast cancer info, wrist bands, and special yummy cookies!  We also asked that everyone on campus wear pink that day and even got the permission of the Dance Faculty for students to break dress code and wear their pink in class!  Dean was a sea of pink that day as faculty and staff pinned on their ribbons and some students even dyed or tinted their hair!

I guess the answer to my original question - what is purple, pink, and re all over? - is ME.  Because I am a Bulldog.
